The trademark registration process in Ghana typically takes
12-18 months from filing to registration. This includes
examination (3-6 months), publication in the Gazette (60
days opposition period), and final registration. With our

(or provisional application) before any public disclosure,

Ghana’s Copyright Act protects: literary works (books,
articles, software code), musical works, artistic works
(paintings, photos, sculptures), audiovisual works (films,
videos), sound recordings, broadcasts, and computer
programs. Protection is automatic upon creation but
registration provides important legal advantages.

Copyright protection is automatic in Ghana, but registration
with the Copyright Office provides: legal proof of
ownership, ability to sue infringers, statutory damages, and
stronger enforcement. We highly recommend registration for
valuable creative works, especially if you plan to
commercialize them.

In Ghana, copyright lasts for the author’s lifetime plus 70
years. For corporate works, it’s 70 years from first
publication. Sound recordings and broadcasts are protected
for 50 years. After expiration, works enter the public
domain.
